Abstract

Radikalisme berbasis agama masih menjadi tantangan serius bagi moderasi beragama di Indonesia, sementara kajian tafsir tentang wasathiyyah sejauh ini cenderung parsial dan jarang dikaitkan dengan respons atas radikalisme kontemporer. Penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana wasathiyyah dikonstruksi dalam Tafsir Ibn Katsir dan Tafsir Al-Mishbah serta bagaimana relevansi konstruksi tersebut terhadap persoalan itu. Penelitian merupakan library research dengan metode tafsir muqarin, membandingkan kedua tafsir atas lima ayat: QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 143, QS. Al-Hujurat [49]: 13, QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 256, QS. An-Nisa [4]: 171, dan QS. Al-Mumtahanah [60]: 8. Hanya ayat pertama yang secara eksplisit memuat akar kata wasath; empat ayat lainnya dibaca sebagai representasi nilai-nilai moderasi. Perbandingan diarahkan pada empat indikator: basis otoritas, unit analisis, orientasi makna, dan konteks rujukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua mufasir bertemu dalam menolak ghuluw, pemaksaan dalam beragama, dan diskriminasi terhadap non-Muslim, serta sama-sama memaknai wasathiyyah sebagai keseimbangan aktif, bukan netralitas pasif. Perbedaannya terletak pada penekanan: Ibn Katsir bertumpu pada riwayat dan asbab al-nuzul sebagai unit analisis tunggal, sedangkan Al-Mishbah menambahkan munasabah dan realitas sosial sebagai unit analisis kedua. Atas dasar itu penelitian ini merumuskan kerangka wasathiyyah tiga dimensi, yakni teologis, sosial, dan sikap terhadap perbedaan, dengan dimensi ketiga diposisikan sebagai produk pertautan dua dimensi sebelumnya. Sebagai penelitian kepustakaan, kerangka tersebut ditawarkan sebagai implikasi konseptual yang berpotensi menjadi basis kontranarasi, bukan sebagai model yang telah diuji secara empiris.
